Salary is based on experience as per the Classified Salary Schedule, plus a comprehensive benefit package including district paid 6% PERS.
Job Goal:
The Accounting Specialist (Payroll/Benefits) position is responsible for the processing, under supervision, the District’s payroll including preparation of paychecks, direct deposits, payroll liability payments, and required quarterly and annual reports; assuring the accuracy and compliance of reports/time sheets/spreadsheets, etc.; assuring accurate program and funds distribution; and providing Federal, State, and District personnel with requested information necessary for providing timely and accurate payment of district employees. This position is also responsible for the administration of employee benefits.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associates Degree in accounting/business preferred or two years in a related position.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Tyler Infinite Visions, or equivalent applications.
- Possess knowledge of payroll preparation and maintenance of related fringe benefit accounts and records.
- Demonstrated communication skills, problem solving ability and team orientation.
- Ability to organize and maintain detailed financial files and information.
- Ability to maintain consistent work flow.
- Ability to effectively meet required timelines.
- Ability to produce consistent, accurate work under pressure, with a high attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in applying policies to transactions.

Essential Functions:
1. Payroll- Perform all phases of payroll processing and reconciliation.
- Responsible for accurate calculation, maintenance, and payment of all employee contracts, time cards, employee benefits, state and federal reporting requirements, and complete employee history records.
- Verifies all payroll data received from personnel. Responsible for checking calculation of payroll schedules and district paid fringes.
- Responsible for recording and reconciling all employee leaves including sick, vacation personal, bereavement and emergency leaves data.
- Responsible for the payment and reconciling of all payroll liabilities.
- Responsible for all employee payroll files, including but not limited to new and/or revised W-4’s, medical sign-up data, retirement data and any other approved withholding requested by employees.
- Responsible for filing and maintaining all monthly, quarterly and annual withholding documentation as required by state and federal law and for the Public Employee Retirement System.
- Verifies unemployment calculations prior to referring the information and requests to the school district's agent for managing unemployment claims.
- Oversees district fringe benefits and voluntary benefits, including meeting with and providing new employees with benefit information.
- Maintains employee security to allow employees electronic access to their payroll information, e.g. compensation, leave usage.
- Work with assigned staff on developing and implementing electronic processes for all payroll and human resource functions.
- Provides assistance with the District’s Section 125 program.
- Assist Director of Finance and Operations in computing data for budgeting or employee contract negotiations.
2. Assist other staff as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their
work activities.
